Who are you - Where are you?

From 19th - 30th April 2010, CCA were proud to showcase and exhibition based on materials from our archive.

Well covered in both local and national press, this show built on materials brought by a keen public when we ran the hugely popular Craigmillar Then. Many people brought along further images to add to our archives. As a result we were able to feature a selection from school photos over the years from all the different EH16 schools - some now gone. Along with these images, we had artefacts revealing more about how school has changed over the years.
Anyone for the tawse? many kids saw the  the dreaded teachers' menace - the Lochgell
    y for the first time.

    The Maxwell Legacy

Through Be All You Can Be our volunteering initiative, we have received funding to explore social enterprise initiatives that will support the continuation of our work.
VAF, who fund BAYCB, offer seed money funding to ensure that initiatives developed under volunteering can flourish. With this fund - Legacy of Learning - Be All You Can Be and CCA are exploring the potentials of raising monies through social enterprise.
Ideally, CCA hope to gain a space at the newly developed Whitehouse where we could showcase our artist's work commercially, house the archive and develop its  potential.

In exploring this, we are holding an exhibition of our artists' finest work - the best of the best, under the title The Maxwell Legacy.
Artists will submit work to be selected by a specially chosen panel of experts and a representative of the local community.

CCA and Be All You Can Be are then throwing down the gauntlet - inviting as many of the city's private galleries as possible to come and see our work and give us feedback, advice, encouragement, help with funding - and who knows maybe even agree to take on some of our artists as clients. If they don't come, or don't even bother to respond - well, what would you advise? We think maybe it might be time to name and shame...

What worth is art, if it draws from a limited spring of talent and inspiration?

    Heid the Ba'

For the Craigmillar Festival, a local volunteer, James Scoular, using images from the Craigmillar Community Archive, curated an exhibition focussing on sport in the area - teams, events, winners, schools - you name it. Featuring a fullsize boxing ring, Heid the Ba' proved an interesting new use of the archive, highlighting its potential for future events and exhibitions.

At the opening, attended by Kenny McKaskill, local lad made good Paddy McGovern, who has played for many football teams, locally and nationally, spoke a few words and shared some of his clippings with the archive.
